What is it about?

Capacity building Building capacities for emergency response is one of the seven functions of the coordination platform. Once WASH needs have been identified, a capacity mapping can be done to evaluate if the WASH sector is able to answer to the identified needs. Based on the findingfindings, capacity development can be done to fill observed gaps.

Information Getting information on sector capacity is required during must be done before strategic planning phase, to estimate cluster caseload and targets, and to include capacity building targets in the WASH response strategy. But capacity mapping and development are usually considered as preparedness activities, because they require time and resources usually not available during emergency phase.
